Facilitators and Supervisors
At the heart of Tostan lies the work of hundreds of community facilitators, who work tirelessly each year to bring the Tostan program to communities under very difficult conditions. Often referred to as "volunteer" faciliators because of their long hours and modest salaries, these dedicated women and men live in and work with the communities they serve for 30 months.
In creating a grassroots organization, Tostan has relied on its facilitators who implement the educational programs in communities. Specially trained in Tostan's curriculum and pedagogy, they structure activities and experiences that maximize participation and learning and collect all statistics related to the classes. They also help coordinate community-wide events and social action.
Facilitators collaborate with their zonal supervisors who conduct trainings, monitor program implementation, supervise community actions, and ensure collaboration and exchange on a regional level.
