Every year, Tostan benefits from our many interns and volunteers who contribute their time, ideas, and dedication to our mission. The efforts of these individuals are integral to Tostan’s daily functioning. The Alumni Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining an Alumni database of contact information for all past interns and volunteers who worked with Tostan in Africa or Washington, DC.
The Alumni Coordinator will be expected to propose new, exciting ways of engaging DC area alumni in Tostan’s current efforts and to occasionally organize engaging events.

Director of External Affairs, International Communications Team, other Interns, etc
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Please note that depending on the extent and the length of commitment, some of the responsibilities listed below might vary.

Help to maintain Tostan’s relationships with past interns and volunteers

Compose email update
-
Coordinate local events, etc

Maintain an up-to-date database of alumni contact information to use in collaboration with the International Communications Department

Manage alumni sites/pages (Facebook, LinkedIn, Z2, etc)

Various administrative tasks
Qualifications:
-
Thorough understanding of Tostan’s programs and methodologies
-
Bachelors degree or current enrollment in Bachelors program; studies in International Development, Education, Gender Studies, other social science, Communications, Business, Management, or related field

Strong communication skills, including written and spoken proficiency in English (required) and French (preferred)

Previous experience with either a nongovernmental or nonprofit organization or experience in Africa/non-western country preferred

Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite required

Knowledge of Gmail, Google Groups, Google Documents, Google Calendars, and other Internet programs preferred

Ability to work independently, to self-motivate, and to manage multiple tasks at once
-
Flexibility adapting to a multicultural environment, to be considerate of limited resources, and to adapt work priorities to the immediate needs of supervisor, Tostan, or project partners

Must be willing to provide administrative support when necessary
