In late September, Charity Navigator, a premiere independent charity evaluator, launched its new, in-depth rating system.   This new system not only evaluates a charity’s financial health, but also it uses metrics to judge the charity’s accountability and transparency.   Upon the launch of this new system, half of the charities currently rated on Charity Navigator received new ratings; the total number of charities with a 4-star rating, the highest rating, decreased by 20%.  

Even with the more complex evaluation criteria, Tostan still maintained its 4-star rating, receiving a score of 66 out of 70 in both the financial section and accountability and transparency section. Looking to the future, Tostan will continue to strive for secure financial health and the utmost level of accountability and transparency in the work it does to promote positive change in the communities with which it partners.
